What if we think about it from another perspective (and I’m not here to defend anyone).
But what if we let the kids play their games!?
People need to try different hats and roles. Manifesting them actually contributes to their self-awareness. It also might save them from going the wrong way or sliding into the lives so miserable and useless that it’d be better to just stick with playing the innocent games of being “artists”, “writers” etc.
People have this urge to self express and manifest who they are or want to be. 95% of the abstract artists are pretending to do abstract art, making nothing but flat parodies of the actual ideologists of the movement and 5% are actually doing the true abstract art.
Writing is a skill, nothing fancy. Building your persona and appearance is. Personas can be fancy AF.
It makes no difference for your craft if you’re stating you’re the craft smith or not. But it does make difference if we’re talking about your Persona.
Anyway, I really enjoyed your article and enjoy what you’re doing Matthew! Great job!
And I agree with most of the things you wrote, I just wanted to see the different angle of the argument.
