Aside from his extensive professional contributions, Chewning is an active volunteer who has taught students of many ages, including college students, essential skills for the corporate world. Alongside Cane Bay Partners, corporately, he has made personal donations in excess of $100,000 to those who have been affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Cane Bay Partners continues to focus on education, social services/ health, and crime prevention in the community. Chewning has participated on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of the Virgin Islands for the past six years including his current post over the last two years as the vice chair. In addition, he has enjoyed partnering with organizations like Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands and Relay for Life to assist with providing furniture, time, and money.

David Johnson, Kirk Chewning, and Cane Bay Partners helped to create Cane Bay Cares, which is a charity that has partnered up with not-for-profit organizations such as the Community Foundation of Virgin Islands and the St. Croix Foundation to provide short term and long-term assistance in the USVI community. Cane Bay Cares began as a relief effort in the wake of Hurricane Irma and Maria’s devastation to the USVI. While the effort did a solid job providing over 75,000 pounds of aid and over $400,000 of dollar and good donations, Johnson and Chewning did not want to stop there. Hence a long-term strategic plan was born to build Cane Bay Cares into a long-term charity with a primary focus on education. Along with Cane Bay Partners, Cane Bay Cares provides funding and volunteer time to a variety of initiatives, as well as a new after school program for the public middle school students on St. Croix (Operation Inspire), and the World Ocean School (Roseway). In addition, the Cane Bay Cares team is excited to partner with the Coral Reef Academy to facilitate a badly needed school and assistance for children with autism and other developmental disabilities, as well as Project Promise, which provides assistance to at-risk students. Whether it is providing a week-long sailing and team building program for the children of Ricardo Richards Elementary School, band equipment for our High Schools, or providing facility enhancements in several of our private schools, Cane Bay has been focused on education for many years.

Mr. Chewning enjoys the community of St. Croix and can be seen regularly volunteering his time to small business owners and nonprofits to assist them in expanding their capabilities and markets as well as better serving local residents. In his free time, he enjoys spending time boating with his wife Leah and two young children Ella and Grace. His commitment to bettering his community, the education of our nation’s future, and the financial industry are what makes him a frontrunner of the industry and role model within his community.
