This takes some thinking about.
John Hopkins

There are many types of mental illness and many degrees of severity. So I think it is an oversimplification to say, “ ‘mental illness’ being ultimately socially defined.” Some mentally ill people are completely detached from reality, some can be very dangerous to themselves, or to other people. It is very unfortunate that our federal and state governments have abandoned responsibility for education about, and assistance for the mentally ill. (Mostly by Republicans, starting with Reagan).
