My Journey To 5k

So a couple of months ago I had the great idea to sign up for a Race For Life 5k run! I’ve wanted to do it for a while, despite being the least exercisey person ever and having never run since they made us do cross country at school (which I hated!).

Now I’m almost 38 I feel like I should do at least some exercise, and I thought this would be a great way to start with the added bonus of doing it for charity.

So I signed up with a friend, bought active wear and downloaded a couch to 5k app (ZenLabs). Then came the hard part- actually running! Luckily the app really eases you in gently, starting with running for 1 minute then walking for 1 minute. Gradually you run for longer and walk less in between, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have been able to do it without being trained this way!

Right now on into week 7 and I can (just about) run for 25 minutes with no walking, don’t get me wrong it’s HARD!! But I’m the sort of person who won’t give up or let the app beat me!

There’s just over 2 weeks till my Race For Life and I’m really looking forward to it, I don’t think I’ll be able to run the whole thing, but that’s ok- I know it’ll be fun, I’ll be with amazing people, and most importantly raising money for Cancer Research which is a charity close to my heart after losing my Grandad to cancer.

Watch this space for photos from the day!!

What do you do for exercise?
