When my blood sugar fluctuates, I get sleepy.
My eyelids stick together and snicker when I fight them, I breathe heavy and slow like I’ve already lost, I’m already asleep, gone like my day and my thoughts, I can hear my brain
stop
And it took years for me to learn to remember to tell myself
Years to say ‘you aren’t tired, this isn’t you, you can do this, just wait’
Because every time my eyelids snicker
all I hear is them
The whispering jab of another theft
that I half agreed to let them take
