I love the idea of characters that exist because of someone’s potential!!! brilliant. Is the focus on one human’s dual characters? or is there kind of a lurking infinite society of potential characters, because every human has two? Do animals have them? Is potential subjective, and does that change the reality of each character to another human? OMG OMG KIM if both humans and infinite characters are aware of each other in your book, and potential is subjective, that could be SO MUCH FUN. a total shitfest to write, of course, but also hysterical fun maybe? whatever shhh ignore me; I’m drunk and excited. I feel like our capacity for growth vs our actual individual and group growth accomplishments is still completely relevant to your story, if you want it to be! Totally. And it’s a perfect summation because you can make it do whatever you need it to do for your story or your philosophical stance. (side note: I have recently discovered that freedom in writing is a total fucking bane and I miss elementary school assignments. par and kill me. the end.)
