How a TV Sitcom Triggered the Downfall of Western Civilization
David Hopkins

I think Big Bang Theory is worse (at least the early seasons). We’re supposed to identify with Penny, but I think she’s boring. Meanwhile, characters who are actually interested in things get laughed at. Penny doesn’t even seem to care about acting all that much. She’d be far more interesting if she were.

It shouldn’t matter too much what your passion is, so long as you have at least one. Hell, even Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian have successful businesses.

If we’re a dumb society and I’m drowning in idiocy, it’s not new. Maybe what’s changed is the amount of information. My Facebook is mired in bad memes, bad grammar, and is shallow. Every once in awhile I get upset that my cool, positive post didn’t get traction. Does anyone care about these cool historical figures? Reading The Metamorphosis? My novel?

But honestly, who’s ever attended a party of mine, cared about my accomplishments, or listened to me while I went on about bipartite graphs?

Ross is just those of us who love something and nobody appreciates it. He didn’t start it, he was just an anthropomorphic version of that feeling you get when you’re into something weird.
