Unfortunately, I think most businesses don’t know what they need. “Data science” is a buzzword, super trendy. I got hired as a data scientist for a company that didn’t know what that was. Nobody understood any of the math terms I said, either. But I never picked data science because it was trendy. I’m a mathematician, and I wanted to work on beautiful theories and research. So I think the question is, do you want a job in data science? Or do you just want to do math?
