Funny, post layoff, three failed jobs, and working two jobs to become a teacher in real life (not online)… I have the same feelings. I’ve actually been playing with a posting of my own along similar lines.
It’s like our culture has become so focused on things and money as the measure of our worth that we’ve lost other things that might be just as important: acts of charity, connections to others needing help, the thoughts and ideas we instill in the next generation.
If it’s a culture shift, are we on the extreme swing of a pendulum? Would we therefore, if we could relax and wait it out, come to a place where the culture has a more balanced view of human worth, and then it would be okay to be us?
That is, as women, can we find a balance that works and works for our families, even if we don’t have as much money to go shopping and even if we have to make our kids be more independent to function when we’re out?
