The Change Formula and Your Career: Vision (Part 2)

In my last blog post, I talked about Dissatisfaction or Motivation in the change formula.

How does the second factor, Vision, fit in? Well, it’s one thing to know what’s not working for you. Knowing what it is you ACTUALLY want is another story. It’s a critical piece because it will ‘pull’ you toward it, the stronger the pull, the more likely we will be able to make that career leap!

I made a change from being employed full-time to doing new kind of work that I wanted as part of my ‘future life’ — part-time consulting. I went through a process of defining and clarifying what I wanted my life to be like in 5 years (and beyond). As I painted that picture of my whole life in five years, I was, in parallel, also painting a picture of the career that would fit. The big picture included aspects that were important to me — relationships, family, work, spiritual life, finances to name a few. As that ‘future life’ became clearer to me, it made me see how certain career decisions would not align with it.

Knowing how I wanted my life to be at that point in time definitely pulled me closer and closer toward it. It was like a magnet. The stronger that magnet, the more likely you are to actually make the change. Until a new vision calls me to re-calibrate my career, I know how I want my career life to be. [I actually see my career life as fluid, rather than fixed. But more on that in another post.]

What’s your vision for your life, and how is this in sync with your career? How does it look? I’m curious to know! Leave a comment or send me a message at kittyferreria@gmail.com.

I now run my visioning + life design workshop called Your Awesome Year (YAY), on-demand. If you or a small group are ready for a private run of YAY, please do get in touch. For more details, please visit www.kittyferreria.com/workshops.
