When journalists are attacked on social media for taking a stand on issues
Erwin Lemuel Oliva

Thanks Erwin for this! I think one other thing to consider when looking at the disproportionate amount of trolling and abuse that female journalists get is how pervasive sexism and patriarchy is in daily life anyway. Women get more abuse because they tend to attract more abuse anyway, regardless of what it is that they do. I’ve certainly been on the receiving end of more trolling and condescension than male journalists or activists, and a lot of that trolling takes on very misogynistic overtones, which is very telling. So beyond the standard push for press freedom and protection of journalists, we also need to address more pervasive misogyny that informs many people’s responses to women who dare to be vocal and visible.
