Caffeine, work and ‘me time’

I am a self-confessed coffee addict and love to spend time at coffee shops. I have been visiting cafes for over a decade now, and the love affair started during my college days and continues till date. What started as a place to bunk colleges and while away our time has gradually transformed into a place where most of my working hours are spent.
Over the years, reasons for cafe visits has changed from just ‘hanging out’ to ‘reading books’ to ‘watching people’ to ‘business meetings’ to ‘first dates’ to ‘breakup talk’ to finding the ‘me time’. The latter has been the most important reason that takes me back to a cafe from time and again. Being alone in a crowded cafe is something that most people won’t understand. For me, it is the ultimate destination to observe, contemplate, plan and organise my life: work as well as personal. The caffeine and the crowded chatter just adds to the process. Plug points and free WiFi are the icing on this cake.
‘Me time’ is something that everyone should have in their lives, irrespective of their age. While some like to watch movies, read books or just laze around, there are some like me who love doing all of these and more. The definition of ‘me time’ changes from place to place, and from time to time.
When I started writing for a living, my definition of ‘me time’ was to get away from writing, and as a result indulged in activities like watching movies, listening to music, travel, etc. Now that I have stopped writing for my livelihood, I intend to make writing my ‘me time’, and this is the first essay in that direction. Whenever I thought of starting a regular blog, it has failed miserably. Probably because of my own expectations from the same. This time, for a change, I have absolutely no expectations. And, I am just going to sit down at a cafe, pick up my favourite cup of coffee and type away here.
