Printmaking with AR Technique

Mahjong is a tile-based game that was developed in China during the Qing dynasty and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. It is commonly played by four players The game and its regional variants are widely played throughout Eastern and South-Eastern Asia and have become popular in Western countries too.

Monotype is a type of printmaking made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The image is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by pressing the two together, usually using a printing-press. Monotypes can also be created by inking an entire surface and then, using brushes or rags, removing ink to create a subtractive image.

This is a project that combines new technology and traditional cultural technology, because printmaking and mahjong are human cultural products and technologies with many years of history, and AR poster technology is a new technology. I hope my work will bring new life to printmaking and let everyone know the elements of Mahjong.

Concept + Sketch

Printmaking

I chose four elements of Mahjong to create, for example,东南西北. I chose these four elements because they represent the four-player characters in the Mahjong Board and also represent the direction of the seat.

I printed this with very pop color, I like the combination of these colors. And I softened the corners of the background to make them look more like Mahjong tiles.

Video

The video uses gradient colors and random text because when you play Mahjong, you never know what the next card you get.

These elements are inspired by the rules of Mahjong
