Wandsworth Common – a paradise for dogs (and their owners) in London!

I’ve lived in Wandsworth Common for a few years now and let me just say it, this place compares to MTV cribs for dogs. Yes, babies do have a good deal too…#nappyvalleynet #mumsofwandsworth #wandsworthmums #SW18mumsnetwork ;)…but let’s talk about why this is just the lushest home for our furry friends and their loving owners. Let me tell you why…

1 — You are surrounded by nature
Your dog can get totally lost in the vast greenery of our lovely park. There is a pond, which most dogs love jumping into (although they clearly aren’t allowed to!), there is enough park to let your dog run around off its lead, there are mud puddles even in the middle of summer, and there is plenty of woodland making you forget you are anywhere near a city, let alone in London!

2 — Your dog is very welcome
Local establishments really know how to make your dog feel at home. Bellevue Road alone counts at least 5 dog watering bowls on a very short stretch of pavement. From estate agent, to fashion boutiques, to gents grooming, to pubs, everyone loves dogs and knows how important it is to take note of them. Both the Hope Pub and the Althorp offer fresh water and doggy treats, the Skylark Cafe in the middle of Common sells doggy snacks, the ice cream vans offer doggy ice cream treats and the Toast Rack Cafe on Trinity Road even makes your dog a heavenly ‘Puppuccino’ if you ask.

3 — Everything you need is just a ‘paw-step’ away
The area offers all amenities you could ever ask for… there is a dog grooming parlour, doggy day care, vets and now even a fitness class for dog owners! I haven’t met a single ‘snappy’ dog yet… it’s a happy dog commune with dogs just wanting to play with each other.

4 — You’ll meet some interesting dog owners
Dogs make the world a better place. Although we don’t usually speak to ‘strangers’ once you have a dog, you certainly don’t mind talking to other dog owners on your walks (and be ready to do so!). Wandsworth has some really interesting people so the chances are that you’ll meet some of them! My favourite at the moment is Sarah Denizz, she is a haute couture fashion blogger with 2 pugs called Mozart and Clara (you can find her as sarah.denizz on Instagram).

In summary, it’s green, it’s friendly, it’s got everything you need plus we’ve got some fabulous dog parents. So if I ever get reborn as an animal, I want to be a dog and I want to be living in Wandsworth Common! Woof woof!
