Early this year we decided to change Klarity’s strategy into building our technology solution for fighting corruption through existing market tools instead of developing them in-house. That would make it easier to spread the platform and allow any civil society organizations to easily and freely rebrand and manage it for their causes. Knowing how imperative it is to build up capacity locally to achieve sustainable change, we are also increasing our financial support to partners’ capacity development. Along with this, we are releasing the Klarity platform as open-source, while handing over the ownership of our flagship platform Jesuisanas.org …
As we are packing up to take off for the holidays, each member of our team to their own corner of the world, we are reflecting on the year behind us.
2018 was a busy year and a year we can be proud of overall. As a way to wrap it up with a cute little bow on top, we would like to share our main highlights with you.
Here we go!
You can not create world-changing products without a world-class team.
Our CEO knew this when she set off to recruit a strong team after taking over the reins as the CEO of Klarity at the beginning of this year. …
Creating a corruption-resilient Ghana requires the hearts and minds of its people. Having launched the movement #JeSuisAnas (mentioned in our previous blog post), we are now leveling up with a Hackathon for anti-corruption to take place in Ghana in February 2019. We kicked it off last week in Accra in a warm-up event together with civic activists, software engineers, students and investigative journalists engaging in creating ideas to solve everyday corruption.
Joining forces with MEST Incubator in Ghana, a group of 20 anti-corruption activists teamed up to create a concept for a digital product that makes it easy for other people to take a stance against corruption and empowers them to act upon it. …
Klarity has today unveiled a collaboration with award-winning Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye Foundation. Together they launch JeSuisAnas.org, an online platform that allows users to record and upload videos of everyday corruption, with Klarity providing the technology and the full spectrum of product development. Tiger Eye will serve as Klarity’s partner, a collaborating organization with a proven track record for fighting corruption in Ghana and across Africa.
Tiger Eye Foundation and its founder Anas Aremeyaw Anas have since Klarity’s inception worked closely together to mobilize activists and investigate cases.
The platform JeSuisAnas.org launches with over 100 uploaded videos from Anas’ latest work on exposing corruption in the Ghanaian football league. Going forward it will connect citizens, activists, and journalists in Ghana in the fight against corruption. …
This is a question we get asked fairly often and to be honest, it is an excellent one.
Why struggle with petty corruption when corruption in politics and business is easy to point the finger at and involves huge amounts of money over the world? Why does Klarity focus on small bills exchanging hands instead?
There are many reasons for why we decided to focus on fighting petty corruption, the main one being the loss of trust that abuse of entrusted power brings to the table anywhere it chooses to show its ugly face.
How could we expect that citizens would engage and believe in democracy when they can no longer trust the public institutions whose sole purpose is to serve them? …
Klarity empowers citizens to act on corruption experienced in their everyday lives. We hold a unique role in society creating a community that connects citizens, activists, journalists, CSOs, and government bodies. We believe that for petty corruption to cease to exist it needs to become a high risk low gain activity.
In earlier blog posts we have introduced our leadership, our key community partner Tiger Eye Foundation and in this blog post we will highlight our third pillar, our users.
Klarity provides an online community where activists anonymously crowdsource video-based evidence against corruption issues in their local neighborhoods. Freedom of speech is the cornerstone of our philosophy which means that anyone can create an account, engage and generate content on Klarity anonymously. …
The whispers in the waiting audience suddenly grow louder and there he is! Clad in a long brown and black frock, his signature hat with rows of beads covering his face, he moves quickly through the seated crowd towards the stage. But over there is another man dressed in the same way, rows of beads covering his face! And a third one coming from the other corner! The crowd is suddenly confused. The three men line up on the stage and the microphone is passed between them for an awkward minute, before one of the bead-covered men say a soft “Good evening”. …
Just before the new year Klarity appointed Eliza Kücükaslan as Klarity’s CEO. She has been part of the Klarity team as Deputy CEO since last summer and here is a short interview for her to introduce herself, her ideas, and where she wants to take Klarity.
Eliza, congratulations on your appointment! How have your first few weeks as CEO been?
Thank you! I feel honoured to take over as Klarity’s CEO and we are ready to take 2018 by storm. The last few weeks have been both busy and stimulating. I feel confident that this year will be pivotal in Klarity’s growth and development. …
