Would you love me with rough edges?

I’m a burnished edge, I look happy all day long, I’m a happy burnished edge.

No. I mean… maybe though probably not but to be brutally honest, it’s not like it can’t happen.

I wish I could say that I’ve been leather-working for years and now drawing back on my blood, sweat and tear acquired experience I am entitled to say that… Well, had I said that I’d be lying, I’ve been at it for no more than half a year, I’ve always had the designer’s eye in me and have always steered in the direction of creating usefulness.

I’ve crafted an item or two and the one thing I’m here to say is all about burnished edges. Check this out peeps:

Mmmmmm… see what I mean? If I were stranded on an empty island where this viewtiful material that goes by the name ‘leather’, had yet to be found out about, the burnished edge is the thing I’d mourn over. Yup, definitely, that’s the one. Not the smell, not the gorgeous colour, not the usability, sir no sir, it’d have to be the burnished edge.

It’s what makes your product go “Bam!”, it’s what makes people drool over what you’ve made when they hold the masterfully crafted piece of awesomeness in their hands and stroke the edge with their index finger whilst letting out a super silent:”wooow” that is heard by none other than the very thing they’re holding (and you of course, you know I’m talking about that special connection craftsmen share with their creations).

Though I look round I’m so sharp I split rocks by just looking at them. Briefly.

A bit of know how here, I first dampen the edge with water, and use a wooden slick to round and prepare the edge, then I apply the almighty beeswax (which I get from local bee-keepers, naturally) and use the slick again to rub it all in. I am left with the perfect edge on my product, like…. here!

I happen to be a handmade piece of goodness. I hold bank notes, cards and various pieces of paper in my intricately designed slots!

See? I clowned you not.

That’s it for today’s rant on burnished edges, stay tuned for more.
