Klik is a platform for event organizers, created by PixMob, to increase engagement and improve ROI while increasing human interactions.

Since Klik launched it’s new smart badge, we thought it would be essential to speak with the product director who was part of creating it’s new design. In this candid interview- David Lemieux talks about how he joined the PixMob and Klik team and the thinking behind the newest version of this event badge.

David Lemieux
  1. What is your role at PixMob/Klik?

D.L.: I’ve been part of the team since 2013. I initially came in as a project manager for the XLVIII Super Bowl and 2014 Sochi Olympics, this was a very exciting time for the company. I was also involved in sales and business development and as a production director, so I was often in front of clients as well as onsite delivering shows. I’ve produced about 100 PixMob gigs around the world.

D.L.: My current title is Director of Product and my role is to be the mediator between the sales team and the R&D department. My experience in sales and using the physical product give me the ideal mindset to understand how to make improvements to the platform, based on market demand and fluctuations.

2. Why did PixMob decide to develop Klik- an event management platform- when PixMob LED wearables were already so successful?

D.L: The company just kept expanding and the technology kept evolving. The company founders, David and Vincent made the decision to invest in developing new technologies, simply because it’s much more fun to keep working on new innovative projects, if you’re not innovating- things get boring fast.

3. What were the goals of this type of product and have they changed in the last year?

Using the klik badge to optimize networking

D.L. : The objective with klik, was to go from being something that was nice to have, to something that you had to have at your event. We wanted to position klik as a fundamental event management element, more than just a lightshow that provides a wow factor.

It’s also difficult to quantify the ROI of a wow moment with PixMob products. With klik, we wanted to create a product that had measurable added value to event organisers, not just because it’s trendy to talk about ROI- but for the organizer to be able to understand what happens when they invest in event technologies.

4. Why create a Smart Badge?

D.L.: Event organisers often have to deal with tons of suppliers when they are putting together an event. With klik, we wanted to simplify things for them by eliminating the need to go to multiple suppliers. At klik, the same company provides the app, the registration, the ticketing and the physical event badge.

5. Do we see a future for the klik badge? Do we see it evolving?

D.L.:In the upcoming year, we plan on releasing a newer version of the klik badge. Our badges are currently reusable but, we can always do better to reduce our carbon footprint. Our goal is to work on ways we can accelerate the reuse and recycle process, eventually we would like our smart wearables to also be rechargeable.

6. What’s next in store for klik? Anything new and cool to be excited about?

D.L.: In the next 6 months, we plan on improving our software from an operational standpoint, with a focus on bettering the platform for the event organizer by adding more interesting features.

Afterwards, we plan to shift our focus on more experiential elements to provide a richer and more customized experience for event participants.
