Weekly Reflection, August 30th

What’s your name, major and hometown?
Dave Klinger, ad major, from Hinsdale, Illinois.
What would be the most useful thing for me to know about you as a student?
I like to raise my hand a lot! Also, I get distracted easily.
Sometimes I tend to be a slacker, so don’t be afraid to push me as a student. I usually need it.
What do you wish was different about school?
More outside-the-classroom stuff (AKA: field trips!). Also, much less homework to do after class — students, especially high schoolers, need extra time to sleep and socialize and decompress.
Describe a moment in school last year when you felt really engaged. Why do you think that moment was such a positive one for you?
My English teacher taught us a lesson on photography. She told us about perspectives in pictures, then gave us Beanie Babies, and then let us run free around campus taking pictures of said Beanie Babies. We brought them back to the class, and everyone projected one photo to the class and explained why they took it like they did. It was so fun. I think I was engaged because I was given maximum creativity with the project and also with my surroundings.
What do you think teachers think about you, and what do you wish they’d think about you?
I think teachers think I am enthusiastic and smart. I want them to know that I like to think I am as well. I love learning about anything, really.
Tell me about a teacher who you feel knew you well. What kind of student were you in his or her class? What did he or she do to get to know you?
My 6th grade teacher, Ms. Tabby, was awesome. I was always energetic, trying to be funny. Instead of telling me to calm down or be quiet or go in the hall, she just laughed.
If you could build a school, what would it look like?
The Statue of Liberty. The kids would think it was so cool.
What do you wish I would ask you so that I can be a good teacher for you?
To really challenge myself beyond the course material, especially since I use media writing in everyday life.
What makes a weekend day great for you?
Doing something I think is funny and/or productive and also chillin’ out
Anything else to add?
Can’t wait for this class, I’m super excited! Other than that, nope.
Finally, include a photo of yourself in your Medium post so I can start putting faces to names.

All done!
