Story Description

The Innocence Project used DNA evidence to prove a man convicted of rape and murder is innocent, by revealing the clothes police claimed Tony Wright to be wearing were not his. Wright spent nearly 25 years in prison, barely escaped death penalty and now plans to be spend his time being a father and grandfather.

Why this story

I was so intrigued by this story because no one is able to fathom what it would be like to spend over two decades in prison for a horrendous crime they did not commit. I also found Tony Wright’s attitude inspiring; he chooses to be joyous over his release rather than disdainful of the years spent locked up.

Social Media

The story has gone viral over social media. Hundreds of people are commenting, retweeting and favoriting tweets by the Innocence Project. People are inspired by Tony’s newfound freedom and reunion with his family, as well as angered by the lack of justice entailed with Tony’s sentencing and the real rapist being able to walk free.
