On “Woke” White People Advertising their Shock that Racism just won a Presidency
Courtney Parker West

White people who are shocked? THAT’S who you decide to attack at this grave moment in history? White people who are expressing outrage? You think this is a time to divide ourselves even further? You think our shock came from being naive? No, it came from our hope in humanity, and that hope being destroyed. It’s human nature to hope for a better future.

Are you not still shocked every time you see another black man shot by the police? Isn’t it still upsetting, and terrifying even though you KNOW racism exists? You just want to feel special and different; you just want to say “I told you so” or “I knew it all along.” “But find yourself a white friend and complain to them.” These are words of separation, not union.

You’re calling for white folks to stand beside you, right after you criticize them for trying and expressing sadness at failing? You are not doing yourself or your cause any favors by attacking the very people who voted and stood by equality. They are at least trying. You are doing much more harm than good with this article.
