Jay-Z “The war of drugs is an epic fail.”
Recently, a video by NYtimes has blown up over Jay-Z’s views of the war on drugs.
- Visually, this video is intriguing. Watching someone draw visual representations of the topic keeps people wanting to continue watching. The drawings happen fast and are a little “rugged”, which gets the point across about how messy this topic is.
- Jay-Z’s voice is familiar which keeps people listening. Since he is so closely related to this topic by being associated with the rap genre or having grown up in New York in this time, you can tell he is passionate about the topic. His voice is choppy and powerful, which is what this video needed to get the point across.
- The fact that the artwork was sped up and creates a video impacts the message because it shows you a timeline of Richard Nixon’s presidency to present. It relays the message that even after so many years the war on drugs still exists and still is a problem.
