If I Were a Racist Bastard, Trump Would Be My Obama
Ezinne Ukoha

We created Donald Trump. As distasteful a thought as this is, he is a clear reflection of the typical American’s disdain for Washington…. and Washington is truly “broken”. If a democracy is indeed an inefficient form of governing, we have nonetheless managed to thrive on it for the last 200 odd years.

Until this generation.

Civility is out the window. “My esteemed colleague…” is never used anymore. Working with the other party is considered treasonous and is punished by party whips. Fundraising is now 24/7 and 365... you run for re-election the day you are elected. Crass and overt favortism is not only tolerated, it is celebrated. Fuck you is uttered and practiced every day. Washington is indeed broken.

Oh, for the good old days.

So a flamboyant egomaniac promises to fix it and we believe him. He owes nobody, his simple solutions appeal, his arrogance is a virtue, he is the consummate outsider and he vows to Make America Great Again. The fact that he has no clue as to what the presidency means does not matter: we believe him.

In simplistic terms, we long to return to an America that never was, and he might just be our next president because of it.
