Are you feeling worried about your family back home? Stressed about the final exams racing towards you? College is overwhelming. Hold that thought and allow me to provide a new perspective.
Positivity is crucial to my identity and it is a part of who I am. When I approach life with a glass-half-full mindset, I find that I am much happier overall. Now studies are proving what I have been practicing. According to Psychometric Properties of the Positive Thinking Skills Scale Among College Students by Matel-Anderson and Bekhet, suicide is the 2nd most common cause of death for college students, with stress being a contributing factor. Through a study, they found “that positive thinking had a direct effect on suicide resilience in college students.” This is due to the impact on emotions, perspective, and the ability to cope with situations. Our thoughts regarding our circumstances can be the difference between life and death. This is a perfectly controllable thought process that just might save the life of you or someone you know. So spread the word, think positive thoughts even when it feels impossible (you can do it), and encourage those around you. Together we can get through the hard times.
Your family wants you to be challenged and thriving, even if it means being far away from home. They will be okay and so will you. You can totally handle any upcoming final exams. College is full of opportunities. Hold onto that thought.
