Final Idea + Recipe

My final cookie idea is a chocolate-Banana Rice cookie, this cookie is not too sweet and with a hint of banana and chocolaty goodness, with a gooey center and a fun new texture.

The cookie dough came together pretty well the second time.

I believe that this cookie is a creative, and innovative, because it is Feasible: all of the ingredients are readily available at any grocery store, and I was able to bake them using only supply provided by my resident's hall. It is also novel: I don’t know about you, but I have never has a cookie with rice in it. Lastly it is valuable: this cookie adds to the vast array of cookies that are currently available to the average person.

Idea Generation

*note- I started brainstorming and research before I got my sketch book so some things are in a separate notebook.
This is just a list of different things that I thought might be good in a cookie.
Here are some more put together cookie combinations.

Idea Test 1

The first idea that I decided to test was a Chocolate-Banana Rice Cookie. I came up with this idea because I really enjoy the texture of an oatmeal cookie and I thought that I could replicate that texture using rice.

This was the first batch, I added more flour to get better results.

This test went really well, there are a few changes that I will make if I bake these again.

I let some people in my Resident’s hall test my cookie, I got mostly positive feedback, with the exception of a few people that did not like the texture that rice gave.

Idea Test 2

The second cookie that I tested was a peanut butter, honey swirl cookie. This is a peanut butter flavored sugar cookie, with a peanut butter and honey filling.

This is the dough rolled up before being baked.

The second test was not as successful as the first. The cookies came out very dry. The swirl design did not hold its shape in the oven, because the peanut butter filling just kind of melted. Also I thing that the honey burnt, because the cookies had a slight burnt flavor.

Iteration

For the iteration I remade the rice cookies, the recipe remained mostly the same with a few small changes. The first change was to double the flour. I actually made this change after the first batch during the first test, this change is to help the cookie keep its shape. The next change, is probably the most important one, doubling the rice. The rice is what makes this cookie unique and I felt that to call it a rice cookie it is important to be able to both taste and feel the texture of the rice. I also doubled the chocolate chips and and the banana chips.

Another difference between the final cookie and that first test was the bake time. I had to bake the final batch almost four minutes longer than the first time, I belive that this was due to the addition of more flour.

One more change that I made was with the actual rice. For the test batch I had used Uncle Ben’s cook in bag, Brown rice. It was basically precooked and just needed to be heated up. But for the Final, I used rice that I got from the Sanford dining hall, this rice did not seem as fresh and was not as moist, therefore the final cookie lacks some of the goodness that the first test had.
