How to Overcome the fear of travelling like a Nomad?

Be a Temporary Local! (Be K-NOMADIC)

How much impact does fear have on our life? How powerful a force is fear? What role does it play in our decisions or lack thereof? The good news may be that a Google search for “Overcoming the fear of becoming a Digital Nomad” yields 40% less results than yielded by a search for “How to become a Digital Nomad”. However that may not indicate that it is more powerful, but rather that people are seeking ways of becoming a digital nomad more than ways of fighting the fear.

Fear is one of the most formidable forces in our lives, not the least due to its imperceptibility. With that challenge in mind, how then can we fight or eliminate fear when the enemy is undetectable? We all know the saying about the comfort zone, right? A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows in there. This is so true! We fear of not being able to afford the trip. We fear we have too many responsibilities at home. We fear we won’t be able to make friends on the road. We fear not having the ability to handle it.

With all that fear, it’s much easier to stay at home in our comfort zones than to break out and travel. So most of us simply stay at home, held back by our own fear, wishing we could travel but never doing so. However, once we look at why we are afraid of taking the leap, we’ll realize there’s no reason to be. We CAN travel. We ARE capable. It’s not as hard as we think!

FIND OUR TRIBE:

That’s the number one lesson Knomadic feels is important. Knomadic aims to develop and facilitate a platform where remote workers and students from all over the world can travel to exotic places in the world in the company of other interesting people who will enhance the whole experience for them. There’s nothing more motivating and inspiring than being surrounded by people who share the same dream as us, who really get to us. To learn from people who are already living the life we’re still dreaming of, and even to be role model for others who are a few steps behind us on their own journey. Knomadic suggests asking ourselves: What is the worst thing that can happen? Usually the worst case is outweighed by the best that could happen!

WE AREN’T THE FIRST PERSON TO TRAVEL ABROAD:

There are a lot of people who have been travelling the world before us and have ended up just fine. If some 18 year old from England on a gap year to India came home in one piece, there was no reason we wouldn’t, too. We aren’t the first person to leave home and explore the jungles of Asia. Columbus had a reason to be afraid, we don’t!

The Look when you are chained!

RESPONSIBILITIES ARE A FALSE CRUTCH:

It is just our fear telling us that we can’t let go of the things at home. These responsibilities are simply chains that hold us down. Quit the job, and we won’t have to work anymore. Cancel the bills, and the payments are gone. Sell the car, and it disappears. Sell the other stuffs, and we are left with nothing. We think this is all very complicated, but with a few phone calls, everything that we hold back will be gone, taken care of!

WE HAVE ALREADY MADE IT THIS FAR:

We have come this far, we just have to take one more leap of faith. Why turn back now? What will we regret more in life: we let our fears keep us home, or that we went travelling? Sometimes we just have to go for it. Everything works out in the end. Don’t turn back halfway.

Don’t Panic an Interesting life awaits you!

WE WILL DEFINITELY FIND A JOB:

Employment is a major reason for holding onto this comfort zone. We believe that we will become unemployable if we go overseas. The gap in our resume will turn out to be the reason to not hire us. On the contrary, having experience with foreign cultures and people is a real asset. So is showing that we are independent, courageous and capable. Knomadic realizes this and tries to portray travel as a positive experience that teaches intangible personal skills no business school ever could.

REMEMBER; IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD:

If we make it four months into our trip and decide that long-term travel isn’t for us, it’s perfectly alright to come back home. There’s no shame in cutting our trip short. Maybe travelling isn’t for us, but we would never have known if we hadn’t tried!

No matter where we are in space or in circumstances, we always have the choice to be free. Because freedom comes from acceptance. It comes from deciding that where we are right now in this moment is perfect. Who we are right now in this moment is perfect. Whatever that may look like today. Most of the great moments in life are found on the other side of fear. Never let fear outweigh the potentiality of experience. Work with it, not against it. It’s there to guide us towards our calling and show us what truly matters in life!

Its Not End of the World!
