It’s a new month, which means a new series…

And as the title suggests, it’s about business.

But writing about business in the month of February isn’t… business as usual.

Usually this is the time you’d hear all kinds of stuff about love…

Love…

And more love.

But not here. Over here, we mean business.

Now that doesn’t mean I’m never gonna mention anything about love, but for now…

What is a business?

According to Wikipedia Business is “the practice of making one’s living or making money by producing or buying and selling products. It is also “any activity or enterprise entered into for profit.””

And according to Nigerians, business is one of the only ways to escape the terrible economy we find ourselves in.

But no matter where you find yourself, and what definition you use, I’m sure we can all agree that business is an essential part of life.

Well, why should I care?

Remember my first article where I mentioned something along the lines of wanting to encourage you to finally stop blaming the government for your broke-ness?

Yeah, that’s why you should care.

But even if you aren’t broke, there are several reasons why you should at least consider starting a business.

But before all that, let’s get one thing straight

Running a business isn’t limited to buying and selling products, you could do stuff like:

  • Offer services e.g. copywriting, graphic design, voice overs, e.t.c.
  • Be a middleman e.g. dropshipping.
  • Turn your passion into profit e.g. Do you like drawing? Are you good at it? Then charge money for commissions or sell print outs.

And many more, but back to what I was saying

Reasons you should start a business

  1. To combat your broke-ness.

“A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest — then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.” Proverbs‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

For some of you, poverty has already pounced on you, and scarcity has attacked you.

So instead of letting yourself get beaten to a pulp, wake up, and use your time wisely and work.

2. To add value to the society.

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” Acts‬ ‭20‬:‭35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In this day and age, adding value to anyone other than yourself doesn’t really sound too beneficial to most people, myself (without Jesus) included.

But the Bible clearly teaches us that it is more blessed to give than to receive, and to love your neighbor as yourself.

One of the ways you can love your neighbor as yourself is contributing your gifts, skills, and talents to the betterment of society.

Are you a skilled architect? Use that skill to plan out solid buildings that won’t collapse after 2 years.

Are you good at cooking? Cook good, nutritious meals that will keep people full and happy.

Starting a business doesn’t have to be a selfish venture.

Look…

There are many, many reasons why you should start a business.

Some personal, some general.

You starting a business could end up being something God has planned for you, and trust me, if it’s in God’s plan for your life, it’ll end up being bigger and better than you can ever imagine.

Before you leave…

Like it or not, it’s still the month of love

And the truth is that a lot of us have never experienced true, unconditional, unfailing love

Why? Because we look for love in all the wrong places

But true love can only be found in, you guessed it, Jesus!

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Christ loves us. He loves us so much He gave His life for us so we could have the chance to experience true, unconditional, unfailing love.

And He’s knocking at the door of your heart (Revelation 3:20), all you have to do is open up and receive everything He has for you without fail.
