The start of a unique mobile board game!
This past year, I had taken an interest in learning a new technology to diversify my skills as a software developer. Mobile applications for iOS and Android have always sparked my interest, so I figured, why not learn React Native and build a mobile app?
Through a few attempted ideas, I finally decided to land on a concept that is fun, exciting, and can bring people together! The app is called Sneaky Spy, an interactive mobile version of the popular board game Spyfall.
In case you have not played Spyfall before, I will explain the game briefly. This is a social deception game meant to be played with at least 3 people. The goal is simple: one person will be the spy, everyone else is a different role, and everyone must find out who the spy is. To do so, each person will take turns asking a random person a question about the current location (everyone knows about the location except for the spy, e.x. the beach, a movie theater, a cruise ship, etc.). The spy must draw clues on what the location is, in order to appear as if he/she is not the spy.
Normally, this game is played using a special deck of cards (containing the locations and player roles). But, there is great opportunity to convert this into a mobile app so that you can set up and play with your friends and family quicker. There are already many existing versions on the Google play store and the Apple app store, however, Sneaky Spy aims to provide players with many useful features, such as:
- Adding friends and inviting friends to games
- Player profiles!
- Different location packs (and custom packs) for a unique experience
- Colorful images coupled with each location
This is the first blog post highlighting the Sneaky Spy project. It has been in development for about one month now, with plans to launch the app officially in December. See below for a few screenshots of the app in it’s current state (in progress):

I am planning on getting a group of users together to download and try out the app before the official launch. If anyone is interested, please let me know! I would be more than happy to let you try it out! I also appreciate any comments and feedback, so leave a comment and tell me what you think.
