Ooh, yes – the “how much of my donation would actually reach the poor kids” perspective. That is indeed a poor economic argument – but at the same time, a perfectly valid personal viewpoint: if to you a charitable donation is only worthwhile if at least X% of it reaches the intended beneficiaries, then that is just as sensible as saying that a donation is only worthwhile if it benefits cats, or people in Kenya, or children. It’s a personal preference like any other.
