You write, “We liberals disregard conservatives as being uneducated and intolerant” and then go on to talk about a small subset (racist bigots) of a small to medium subset of conservatives (Trump supporters). Your whole article seems to assume conservatives are all bigoted Trump supporters which is certainly not true. This is what is condescending and dismissive and smug. Maybe that’s where you should focus. Change your perspective and consider that not all conservatives are bigoted Trump supporters — are your friends racist? Maybe some conservatives are concerned with deficit spending. Maybe others think the best way to improve education is through school vouchers. Talk to people about these things. Consider their viewpoint. Don’t dismiss their ideas.

And maybe also do a little research on Sanders supporters who plan to vote for Trump. They too exist.

And for the record, I in no way support Trump and don’t consider myself conservative or liberal. Those labels seem too restrictive.
