A short note on “starting with why.”

I already wrote about this in a previous post you can find here.

A conversation I had with my wife yesterday evening however got me thinking about this again.

I was reminded that starting with why is really simple but crucial! We reflected on some of my early day attempts at starting various businesses without a deeply thought out “why” & and how woefully they failed.

We concluded that the zenith of this principle is finding a solution to a personal problem and then deciding to share that solution with the world.

This process of finding a solution can stem out of our (a) curiosity to solve a particularly nagging problem or (b) some personal experience / loss / triumph / sentiment that then sends us on a life mission of sorts.

Starting with why not only makes it worthwhile when the going gets tough (and it will get tough;) but when the why is communicated clearly you can better attract the right talent, and keep everyone headed in the same direction.

In this short video, Elizabeth & Dams — developers of Teseem explain why they are building apps to teach kids African languages and culture.
