The struggles of a Young Christian

To all young Christians,

We are strong, we have strength, we have ambitions and we want to get to that desired spot, we all want to be successful, we pray earnestly to be, when we attend conventions, congresses, vigils we are hopeful that God will hear our prayers and yes He does answer prayers, we pray earnestly for that desired success that dream our hearts earnestly long for…. but wait.

Maybe we should take a look at this success; Have you ever wondered who or what defined success. What is this thing that drives the sons of men crazy. Some of us actually became “born-again” because someone told us that if we did we would be successful, but what is success and who/what exactly defined it. I do know that success in one part of this world may not be termed as success in another part of this world. For example owning a house in Nigeria is sometimes termed as success and you maybe surprised men fast and pray for these purpose but in Germany, renting is the norm.

As young fellows we hear about our colleagues “success” and we hope to achieve this because of our desires, we may take this to God“God do this for me as you did for Mr X or Ms Y”. Although over the years, the outer definition of success may have changed but the frame of this world’s success still remains the same that is mammon, fame and pleasures of this world(there may be more). But as children of God(at least that’s what we call ourselves) why is our hearts so inclined towards this things and this is so bad that the people who call themselves the children of God dream and struggle for the same success as the unbeliever. We say we pray but what do we pray about, we say we worship but see our worship services. It seems this generation is just a bunch of young men and women who deceives themselves calling themselves of God. As you read this why don’t we check our hearts, check and let us ask ourselves what do we live for. Let me guess

  1. Make money
  2. Enjoy this world
  3. Be famous.

The reality is this we struggle, we struggle not just with those who want to perpetuate evil but with the desires of this world and what God wants from us. Our hearts do not give a damn about God or what he cares about. We do not care exactly what He thinks or what He requests from our lives please do note this isn’t about sin I mean this isn’t about the typical sin that we know about. This is about our desires, what are these desires and some of us will justify our desires just like Judas Iscariot. “That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.” Take the perfume to be your life. The truth be said “Not that he cared for the poor — he was a thief”. We are only concerned about our greedy interest. Now let me ask you as a young christian. The life you live, the way you live to whom are you living it to?, your dreams from whom did it come from?, you goals where?, your job where?, your profession where?, what you are currently doing who sent you?.

Some may think I say be poor, do not be rich no and no at all I don’t mean that what I mean is “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds” Now we complain about the rottenness in the church. You will be surprised we are involved in this rottenness. As I struggled with the Lord about a particular issue I saw this

Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign; but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

“The people of Nineveh will stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for they repented of their sins at the preaching of Jonah. Now someone greater than Jonah is here — but you refuse to repent. The queen of Sheba will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Now someone greater than Solomon is here — but you refuse to listen” — Matthew 12:39–42

To all youths who are the children of God

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world” — 1 John 4:4 Why don’t you come back let go of those things they call success and accept the success of God. Their success passes away but ours is forever more. We have a glory which is from heaven not just this earthly glory, do not be fooled by the marketing campaign of this world to draw you to their side. They are passing away, why don’t we decide today to live for God and to God and the Time to do that is now.

Are you a young christian? Are you struggling? then lay down your life for Christ.

I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” — Ezekiel 22:30
