Christy — great article. Sadly, the Monarch is in trouble. Perhaps, as many humans raise concerns about climate, environment, and global warming issues — we humans might be in peril too.

As for government/politics etc., these are temporary problems solved by voters periodically — every 4 years, or less, which is a human ‘who is in charge’ issue that has been around for about 6,000 years. Humans have been around for about 200,000 yrs., the Monarch’s for about 2 million years. The last ice age was 2.6 million years ago. As with all things, we must wonder, what gave rise to monarchs, humans, and politics — each have their origin, each seems to have their life span. Let's hope we can sustain them all.
