Small populations make it harder to do what Nordic countries do

You are ignoring one significant factor that favors Nordic countries, their languages. The service sector in Nordic countries isn’t going to be shipped out to India or Philippines as in US because there isn’t any significant Swedish speaking population outside of Sweden (same for any other Nordic language). Any immigrant to these countries can only get a job if they can speak a local language and not “English”. This means wages for the service sector in Nordic stay up and can’t come down do to the lack of competition from “global economy”.
