“Thank you, thank you very much. It’s great to be here. I know there’s been a lot of talk, a lot of discussion, about something that some people are very upset about — eating cats and dogs. Now, folks, let me tell you, this is not something I like. Not at all. I’ve always been a big fan of pets — cats, dogs, I love them. Many of you probably have wonderful pets at home, and they’re part of your family. I understand that. I respect that.

Now, there are certain places, certain cultures around the world, where this happens. We know this. But here in America, we have different values. I know that. You know that. I’ve always been for strong American values, and I’m going to continue to defend them.

But let me be clear: sometimes there are stories out there that are blown out of proportion by the media — fake news, folks. They love to take something like this and run wild with it, make it sound much worse than it is, because they want to create outrage. That’s what they do. They don’t care about the truth, they just want the ratings.
