I’ve been searching all of the internet over and over again and finally found the real history of Chess …

Chess history dates back almost 1,500 years, starting with its earliest version known as chaturanga in India. The game’s prehistory is unclear. It moved from India to Persia, where it changed in shape and rules and turned into Shatranj.

When Arabs invaded and conquered Persia, they introduced chess to the Muslim world which then brought it to Europe through Spain (Al Andalus) and Italy (Emirate of Sicily). By around 1500 CE, the game had evolved into something close to what we know today.

“Romantic chess” was the most popular style of play from the late 18th century until the 1880s. During that period, quick tactical moves were preferred over long-term strategies. The romantic period was replaced by the scientific, hypermodern, and new dynamics eras.

During the latter half of the 19th century, official chess tournament play started and the first World Chess Championship took place in 1886. The 20th century brought huge advancements in chess theory and established the World Chess Federation.

In 1997, an IBM supercomputer defeated world champion Garry Kasparov in a renowned match, marking a new era of computer-dominated chess. Computer analysis, which began in the 1970s with the release of early programmed chess games has heavily influenced modern chess theory and is critical preparation for professional human play.

The developments in 21st-century computer analysis far exceeded anything a human player could achieve and became publicly accessible. Online chess also blossomed in popularity beginning around the mid90s.

Nowadays, the game has become so popular mainly due to its ancient history and the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit, that the most popular online chess game called Chess.com racked up over 50 million players and millions of games are played daily.

Its popularity is not ready to diminish and is expanding faster than ever before. For instance, a sport has been created named Chess-Boxing which includes both chess and boxing in a match made of multiple rounds. Likewise, there is a heavy rise in livestream chess, especially on Twitch and YouTube.

With all of that being said, it’s not too late to learn how to play the most recognized board game in the world and one of the oldest.

Congratulations! You have read all of the article which I hope has helped you discover the history of the King of games !
