There is an infinite number of different bike models and If you are not an expert, it can be quite overwhelming to find the one that fits your needs.

So If you’re in this challenging case, don’t worry I am to detail everything.

Be careful to read till the end so as not to miss some precious information.

First and foremost, bicycles are classified into several types :

  • Electric bikes
  • Mountain bikes
  • Gravel bikes
  • Road bikes
  • Fatbikes
  1. Electric bikes

Electric models have for the first appeared in the last decades following the ongoing technological advances.

Pros :

They are pretty fast and don’t usually require good physical health, that’s why a lot of workers have chosen them to commute to their jobs rather than cars in the big cities because they are more convenient and sometimes even faster (when riding a bike you avoid traffic jams).

Cons :

But the batteries need to be recharged on a daily basis and the bike is automatically heavier with the battery so it is more difficult to ride without electrical power. You would also need to be careful whenever you leave it due to the high price of the machine, thieves can be tempted to steal your electric bike.

Not to forget that an electric bike is very pricey, it is a long-term investment that can be worth it If used properly.

2. Mountain bikes

Mountain bikes have become very affordable and used by a lot of people nowadays.

Pros:

They are really nice bicycles for pleasure and little rides with friends. Due to the fact that the tires are larger, the bike is more stable and therefore is easy and accessible for everyone to ride. Likewise, mountain bikes can go off-road which isn’t possible for road bikes nor most electrical bikes.

Cons:

However, they present some disadvantages. They are heavier and slower than road bikes or even gravel bicycles. Their tires are not really accustomed to roads as are the ones for road bikes which are thinner and flatter.

Road bikes have numerous advantages and little drawbacks that is why for most people searching for a first bicycle, I would usually recommend a mountain bike.

3. Gravel bikes

Gravel bikes are a perfect mix between road ones and mountain bikes.

Pros :

They are really versatile bikes as their tires can go off-road as well as offer a comfortable ride on roads. They are very fast bikes and perfect for commuting to work. Aldo, gravel bikes are perfect for backpacking and long cycling trips.

Cons :

Like road bikes, gravel bikes are pricey due to the high cost of the materials used, most of the time lightweight aluminum or carbon. They don’t provide as good stability as mountain bikes and can sometimes glide If the road is wet.

Gravel bikes are a real pleasure to ride and they are worth it in terms of an investment.

4. Road bikes

Road bikes are the fastest bikes available for road on the market.

Pros:

They have excellent aerodynamics when riding and can attain an insane speed. Likewise, road bikes are comfortable on roads since they can go fast without much effort. If you struggle with steep slopes, then these bikes are accustomed to your needs as they have no difficulty with slopes.

Cons:

Such as gravel bikes, they are really pricey and so don’t fit anyone's budget. They also only go on roads and not anywhere else. Road bikes have also poor stability and need some practice not to glide when the road is wet.

But for some evident drawbacks, I would highly recommend road bikes for long distances as well as work commuting.

5. Fatbikes

Fatbikes are usually used by travel agencies for guided tours but not only.

Pros:

They are enjoyable to ride and can go absolutely everywhere, ranging from snowy mountains to dense forests. They are always equipped with an electrical motor which offers a comfortable ride. Likewise, they are stable and secure for everyone to ride them.

Cons:

They do need a big budget but can usually be rented. They are very chunky and quite large for narrow paths. They are also difficult to ride without any electrical assistance.

If you want to enjoy your ride in an exotic place, I would surely recommend a fat bike.

Congratulations! You have read all of the article which I hope will help you in finding your perfect bike!
