Japan’s Delight

Oyama is a typical Japanese style restaurant located in Adyar, Chennai, India. It is a beautifully decorated place with verified interiors that inculcate the perfect Japanese ambiance. The outside of the place is embedded with various colourful lights brightening up the satisfying look. They predominantly serve non veg food and have a good 4.7 rating .

Today as a vegetarian, I am going to be sharing my experience at Oyama.

It was a dark Sunday afternoon, when I visited Oyama. We were very warmly welcome by them as promised the outside had a lot of pleasing lights. The place is not a main road so there is not much traffic and noise aswell. They provide limited parking but as the area has wide roads they should be a good parking spot you can find. After parking, the staff guide us to the dining area. The staircase has a lot of pictures of special dishes provided by them along with their prices and offers which was helpful when trying out the place for the first time and it also gives a clear idea of their prices.

When you first enter the dining the restaurant staff welcome us for the second time offering us a place to sit. The waiters were also Japanese so they had clear ideas of the method perfectly. The place had a glowing non veg fragrance which as a vegetarian, I was a little uncomfortable with. The whole area has air cooler so no heat issues. After we were set at the table we were provided with cold cloths rolled neatly and placed in a curved cup that had a refreshing smell. They also provided us with a drink which was a mix of spices which was mostly tasteless. We ordered sushi, noodles, Tempura Morten Bay Bug and Nasu Dengaku — Grilled eggplant with miso paste. The noodles were served ice cold as if brought out of the fridge. It came along with a few seeds, and a extremely pungent paste which was horrible. There was sause along with it with tasted like soy sauce mixed in water. The sushi was pretty average. The Tempura Morten Bay Bug was plain uncooked vegetables coated with a milk white crispy coat which came along with the exact same sauce as the noodles. It felt extremally stale. The Nasu Dengaku — Grilled eggplant with miso paste was uneatable, pathetic. The only good thing about the place was that the appearance was appealing.

The place was also high payed. No joking even the water was bill thirty rupees more than the actual cost. Only these four dishes costed around a whopping two thousand five hundred and twenty nine Indian rupees.

Over all the ambiance was good but the food was disappointing.

Would you like to visit this place? let me know in the comments. I will attach the address here if you ever want to pay the Japanese a day’s meal.
