FanDuel app wins a Webby!

By Ross Wilson

Last week, the FanDuel iOS app won two gongs at the Webby Awards, picking up both the People’s Choice and Judges’ awards. The Webbys purpose is to honour excellence on the internet and is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

We’ve been working with FanDuel since 2013 on the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Both teams have put in bucket loads of effort to get where we are today and it was really rewarding for all the work to receive such a prestigious accolade.

The awards ceremony itself was a glamorous evening on Wall Street and we were among some great company. The achievements of Buzzfeed, Soundcloud and Ted were all recognised and Tinder were hilariously antagonised by comedian Hannibal Buress (we’re big fans of his from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival) as they collected their award.

For me, the highlight of the evening was the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge founder Pat Quinn being presented with the Special Achievement Award by Foo Fighter’s frontman Dave Grohl. The challenge raised over £100 million and was one of the most successful viral campaigns of all time. Each winner was limited to a 5 word speech, and Pat’s was ‘Every August until a cure’ which was the finest of the night.

From our perspective, the awards were a great evening and huge accomplishment for the team. But the app is only ever a snapshot of the product at a particular time and we’re already looking to see how we can make some improvements to win some more honours next year.

So here’s Kotikan’s 5 word speech: ‘Thanks for voting. We’re chuffed!’
