I agree with the overall hopeful sentiment, I’d rather see optimism and hope prevail too. At the same time though, I find the relentless rebooting of beloved franchises to be a desperate cash grab tactic, and I’m not keen on supporting it with my wallet. Because if I satisfy my curiosity and go to see this film just to see what they’ve done with it, which I undoubtedly will, my money will tell the studio that this is a film I wanted to see — which, as a general rule, I don’t, unless there’s something truly unique and fresh and awesome about the new version that wasn’t there in the original. And as a general rule, there probably won’t be.
Is this guy James being a petulant child about this? For sure. Is he entirely wrong? I wish he was, but he probably isn’t.
