DINNER FOR TWO… PLUS TWO (PART 1)
It wasn’t supposed to happen the way it did. I wasn’t part of the plan. She wasn’t part of the plan… At least not in the way they had thought. But there we were; pawns in a chess game. Little did we know, we would soon be King and Queen.
We sat across from each other. I didn’t want to be here, but my boy needed a wingman and his date needed, well, a wing woman. It took some convincing on his part to get me to come along, but there we were. The four of us. For some reason, nothing immediately struck me about her, but as the night wore on, I started to notice her.
She had a way with words. She didn’t use fancy words, but the way she wove them together was truly something. Her words didn’t spill out of her mouth. They didn’t tumble or trip over each other. They were obedient. They sauntered out to the melody of her voice and hit my ears with a sweet tenderness. It was like listening to cotton candy… Or what I imagine cotton candy would sound like. Even when she said her name, I made her repeat it. Yasmin. Her name was Yasmin.
I started to notice more of her. She had one of those contagious smiles. You just wanted to smile along with her. She had dimples to go with the smile. Oh Lord, this wasn’t the plan. Her smile had an unfair alliance with her eyes. They were a team. They were the perfect team. Her smile lured you in and her eyes trapped you. And once they had you, there was no escape. I was lost in her eyes and hadn’t even realized it. I could already see us at our next dinner. Alone. Our first dinner actually… Just the two of us. This wasn’t the plan. I have a girlfriend…
