Week 1 of our media coursework

During our first week in our media class, we were learning how to experiment with camera angles and perspectives and see the effects it’s gonna have on our final outcome. The central concept of this task was to recreate camera angles from famous movies.

We used multiple famous movie scenes as our references, trying to repeat the overall exposition, the characters, the meaning conveyed etc.

1 shot — high angle.

The camera angle in this scene from Avengers shows the characters’ vulnerability, making them appear weak. For this shot, we used the “0.5” lens on the cameras as it creates that zoomed-out effect.

2 shot- two shot.

This scene was used in the famous and well-known movie “Titanic” released in 1997. It is originally a two-shot and a long shot which provides the viewer with the background and leaves them with a melancholic feeling as there is the sunset and the ocean present.

3 shot-long shot.

In this shot, our main focus was to show the background when taking the picture, as in the original scene there was a lot of meaning conveyed on the background.

4 shot- close up.

This scene was in a movie called “The Shining”, released in 1980. This shot is a close up which emphasizes the madness of the character. This angle shot was used for the audience to be able to see the mood and the emotions of the character better.

5 shot- long shot. This movie scene captures the entire background as it is a long shot, moreover, to get the same exposition, we decided to use the school’s sports hall as an example as it is a large and wide area. The picture was taken with a 0.5 lens on the iPhone camera.
