This makes me think of a talk I recently heard about the difference between resume skills and obituary skills. We often focus too much on things that would sound good on our resume, like degrees and meaningless skills that will soon be obsolete. Instead we should work on gaining skills we’d like to read in our obituary; those dealing with character and even learning how to learn, like you mention.
