I’m not a big believer in aspirational values. Aspirational values are like aspirational sales. You can’t pay the mortgage with them.

Instead, I like to do a bit of organizational anthropology to discover the values reflected by the most exemplary team members, those people who set the example for everyone else to follow.

What values do they display? Those are a company’s values.

Then, as you wisely suggest, go hire more people who share those values.
