Project #1
Water Bottle:
For this item, I think that I have good opportunity for design and advertisement because there are so many different style, color, size, etc. water bottles that I could advertise in my website. However, I would have to rely on pictures from the company website for different styles, which is not ideal.

Salt Lamp:
This is the object that I am leaning more towards. I feel that I have more opportunity with this object to take my own pictures, which is ideal compared to the water bottle. I also think that the colors of the salt lamp will make it easier to design a more visually appealing website, as well as I can use different CSS styles to show “light” and “shadow” and glow, as well as other styles. I also think the salt lamp is more visually appealing itself compared to the water bottle, which will draw people’s eye.

Layout Sketches
1: I wanted to have a picture of the full salt lamp as the opening page, and have a simple title line, with a eyecatching quote. Following this, I want a section just listing info, benefits, etc about the product, with a picture of it displayed in “your space”, along with a buy button to match the style of the lamp. Next, I wanted to add info and 2 gifs of the lighting settings and color settings. At the end, the footer information

2: For this, I wanted the picture of the salt lamp to go over the first 2 sections. Again, adding a gif of the colors changing, but having a series of pictures for the lighting changes. Buy button at the bottom: not sure if thats a good or bad idea?

3: I wanted the picture on the first section to be a very cute staged picture with a simple title and the buy button. I liked the idea of there being a bar on the right side with a heading/picture/gif/quote for each section and the left including all the info. Not sure if the info would be too skinny designed on the phone format like this?

4: I wanted the first screen of this to be half the salt lamp, and half some branding. The next section I wanted to be info and reviews on the product, and the next 2 sections having the gifs, but the gifs being combined and split in half so it looks like one form but half of the salt lamp is doing the light dimming and the other half doing color changes.

5: For this I was thinking of having the first section more logo based, and having the background be some sort of pattern. Then having the info, color and light gifs, and then at the bottom a big picture of the salt lamp with the buy button.

6: For this last set, I was thinking it could be cool to have the gif of the colors/lights/both changing on the heading section, with a small title and a buy button. The next section being a cute staged picture with info, and the one after that being still images of the colors and lights dimming. The last section being reviews!

Identity Sketches
This includes some logo designs, pattern designs, and button/text heading designs. I was thinking for the name of the site to be something relaxing like Serenity Salt Lamp, Tranquility, something of the sort. However, I am not set on that name yet.

Persona
My main target audience is like Karli, carefree and easygoing, and looking for the benefits of natural objects (salt lamp). I also am going towards an audience who focuses on relaxation over anything else. Karli is a female, but I feel that my website could go towards both genders, but leaning to a more feminine audience.

Style tile 1: This style tile I wanted to be more playful to match the “hippie” “carefree” “music festival loving” audience. Although I like some ideas in this like the geometric button, I do not think it accurately describes the salt lamp how I want it to in my website. I thought this could be a cool idea with the changing colors of the salt lamp as well, however I do not think it matches my persona as well as the second style tile. The feeling I wanted this website to give off is “jaunty”, cheerful, playful.

Style tile 2: This style tile is my favorite, I think it matches my persona and target audience better than the first one. I think the color palette gives off a very relaxing feel like the name of it. I also feel like the color palette is less harsh and just more aesthetically pleasing. It uses elements from the salt lamp itself (the warm oranges, the wooden button) which I like. The feeling that I wanted this website to give off is relaxation, “serenity”, nature.

Mockup 1
This is my favorite mockup, I feel like the color palette and layout looks better than my other mock as well as works better for my object.

Mockup 2
I am not a fan of this mockup, I do not think the color palette works well with the object and it was very hard to design something that looked good with the color palette. However, my idea of the color palette was for it to be a “carefree” “playful” color palette and I think I achieved a playful look with this.

Revised Mockups
To revise this mockup my goal was to make the website more cohesive and less separated. I also added a gradient that kind of made a “dark to light” feel, as well as adding silhouettes behind the salt lamps to anchor them and make them feel less like they are floating.
