Designer’s Take on Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe Screw Up
Paul Van Slembrouck

Apparently Steve had never seen the card before, or he would have known where to look. There’s hardly any visual hierarchy to the card, and wasn’t “designed” so much as “created.” Yes, it’s fairly simple, but especially to someone who doesn’t do competitions frequently that do “runner-up” rather than 1st, 2nd, 3rd, you can see where he might have misunderstood it. Steve made a mistake, shame it was so public, but for something this big, he should have seen what the card looked like beforehand, and even a junior designer could have produced something that was clearer to read than just using all caps way down in the corner. Even if it had just been a centered list, it would have been fine.
