Let me offer a different perspective. SF violates (or speculates about extending) science deliberately to change the rules. These changes make it easy to study some problems of the current world. Consider Gulliver’s travels. Or, Ursula Leguin’s works. There is not much “respect” for science — it is a prop to study the world.
