Creativity is Your Servant Get it To Work Hard

Blank slate. I am staring at a blank slate (world press doc) as I start to write and it’s this very unusual feeling of expectation even weird kind of anxiety. It’s the unknown of what will my creative genie come up with to put on this paper. See, I will have to let you on a secrets. Before I start writing I have NO CLUE what I’ll be writing about. It’s like I am here to surprise hopefully pleasantly myself and you the reader. This style of writing it’s not as crazy or as hard as you may think. Seriously it doesn’t involve any hard thinking just going with the flow. It’s like turning on the faucet and water starts coming out. That’s how simple it is. The biggest problem is that some time the faucet is rusted up and it takes an inhumane effort to get it going. At other times I don’t want to turn the faucet on. It’s like I am afraid nothing will come out.

Either way this makes a relatively easy process becoming too complex and cumbersome. Yeah cumber — and some more waiting and looking at FB, email and any other bright screens you can find, just so you talk yourself in to not filling the blank with words. See words are like liquid at first it’s just drip, drip, drip. Then after a minute it’s a cup and then a tub full of water. That’s how simple it is. A tub of water is filled with many little drops fit together neatly and tight. But why am I even writing this? There is a reason, I am just warming up, getting my creative muscle stretched and prepping to do some heavy lifting hopefully. That is my intend, but what if the genie is sleepy or lazy or tired or whatever else. Shouldn’t I just call it quits? Definitely a big NO!

Seriously the gene can’t have control over you. You have to control the genie. Get valiant if you have to cause and slave the genie to produce. The genie is your servant in a sense. Don’t let the genie go lazy on you. Your life and income and the income and happiness of many people around you depend on this genie. So put the genie to work and never look back. Get on the track and drive the genie to produce as many meaningful, inspired, encouraging and productive words as humanly(genienly possible). So what if the genie toughens up and buckles down and absolutely refuses to comply with your commands. By the way this is what is going on while I am writing this if you realize it or not. Whatever you do, don’t show the genie you are scared, perspiring or affected in any way. A genie is like a dog. IT can tell you are scared and it will let you pad it or just BITE YOU in the but. Keep your but covered and hold your compulsion and keep demanding a submission.

See I know this experience sound semi crazy and lunatic, ludicrous or “you put your blank here.” The reason I am spending time and wasting ink(figuratively speaking) writing on this subject is, that lately I hear to many calls to spoil the genie, take care of the genie etc. I hope we are on the same track here and you understand the genie is just another name for your creative juices. I am for all that, but after all pampering and resting and nurturing is time for you to put the pedal to the metal and demand that you are productive and start squeezing the juices. You may get lemonade out of lemons or you may just l-emonade all and trash it in the nearest garbage can. Now I understand that if you are not a writer or actively writing daily this topic maybe a little bit off bit for you. However the principle that the creativity is your servant and not the other way around is a solid concept and can be used in any area of life. So saddle your servant and let it do the work day in and day out, several days at a time or however you feel necessary. Remember your life depends on it.
