As with so many things, I suspect that people just want to know they’re being treated fairly more than the exact dollar value. Is there some other way to accomplish that? Publishing your cap table? Standardizing on Fred Wilson’s equity model? A Glassdoor-style clearinghouse where people anonymously compare their previous salary to new salary, equity %, and valuation…?
