Find a Community
On Saturday, I went to a meet up a made some great connections, we were all immediately on the same page for starting a study group to help us all stay accountable and stay on track with out coding studies.
Today we met and discussed everything, our backgrounds, our goals, what we want out of this new field how we want to help each other. It was really great. The whole day reminded me of how important have a community can be to achieving your goal, and inspiring you to do better.
It was shockingly easy to pull this together, and it might be that it all fall apart much faster than we expect, but for now at least it is going to be a really positive influence. But starting it seemed daunting as I went into the initial meetup. but all it took was being open to everyone else being in a different place, and offering an open invite.
My recommendation for finding you people and building a network. Go to Meetup or EventBright, enter in all your interests. Let the site flood you inbox with invites, and start trying them. Not all of them will be what you expected, but some will have like minded individuals. When you meet these people be open, offer to friend them on face or connect on linked in, or just give them you phone number. them make plans for outside the event. Coffee, study group, bowling whatever you think you might be comfortable with.
Then keep showing up. this is how friendships are made, spending time together in person talking about your interests. Also quickly try to start collaborating, find ways to add value to their lives, this will make them appreciate your presence in their lives and inspire them to do the same.
So, go make some friends and start making.
