Stainless steel is one of the most popular choices one comes across while going cookware shopping. And it’s this popularity of stainless steel which has falsely led people in believing that this material comes without any cons and that it is completely safe, devoid of any health risks. Just like there is a proper way to use aluminum bakeware and iron pans so as to be safe at all times, the same goes for stainless steel as well — there is a way you can be safe rather than foolish about using it.

While the human body is an incredible thing, wherein complex defenses allow us in handling a broad array of toxins, you have to remember these troublesome compounds have to be consumed within reason.

Not all Stainless Steel is the Same

The myth about this material which has made people believe that all stainless steel is exactly the same needs to be busted right now. Unlike popular belief, SS comes in a broad range of types as well as grades.

When we talk about SS grade, you will have certain numbers, such as 302, 304, etc. identifying the grade that you’re buying. The grade is what defines the durability, temperature resistance, and just the overall quality of the stainless steel. Similarly, there are numbers that represent the composition of the steel — such as, 10/0 or 18/10 — indicating how much percentage f nickel, and how much of chromium has been used to make the alloy. You should know 18/10 and 18/8 stainless steel are most commonly used for making cookware or just anything that might have applications related to food.

Another thing about stainless steel is that it’s a poor conductor of heat. That is the reason why many modular kitchens in Trivandrum, amongst other places, use utensils and other cookware having stainless steel only as a cladding, while the core or the bottom plate of the utensil is made of copper, aluminum, or another such material that is a better conductor

Final Word…

Now, we are in no way asking you to freak out. There’s absolutely no need to throw away all your stainless steel cookware away — knowing how much almost all modular kitchens in Trivandrum, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and so on use SS pots, pans, etc., we know it would be like throwing out a small fortune! We only want you to choose only the best stainless steel cookware, and use it wisely.
